This is typically because the window has opened off-screen. Users of laptops who connect to a different or additional monitor see this most and it can be frustrating.In the past we have directed users to a simple tutorial to get that window back from the unknown:. Unfortunately, that tutorial was written in 2007, well before the release of Windows 7.If you are on Windows 7 you may find that the trick doesn't quite work as advertised. When right-clicking on an application in the task bar you aren't presented with the menu you were used to seeing in previous versions:This tutorial updates the other one just a bit for Windows 7.Place your mouse cursor over the icon for the application in the taskbar and wait a moment.
A menu should come up that shows you a thumbnail of all the open windows for that application.Now you can right click on the window you want to move and then click Move in the menu:The mouse cursor may disappear (it has gone to the window off-screen). Just press the arrow keys on your keyboard to bring the window back on screen.If you know your extra monitor is on the right, then the missing window is probably to the right of your current screen and you can press the left arrow to bring it back into view. If you don't have an extra monitor then you may need to experiment with each of the directions before you see your window come into view.If that trick doesn't work, you can try choosing Maximize from the right-click menu, and that should move the missing window back to the main screen, although it will take up the entire screen.

First activate the window by clicking on it on the taskbar and then press the Windows logo key on your keyboard together with the left or right arrow key. If the window was minimized, you have to press Windows logo + arrow up key. This did the trick for me. Application had no shift+right click menu (WinSCP).
