My Surface 3 Is Frozen
On several occasions, I had my Surface Pro 3 freeze up on me on the boot screen. When I would turn on the surface, it would get to the black screen with the Surface logo, but it would not get any further. No spinner, no activity, nothing.The following procedure fixes my issue every time:.
if the Surface is turned on, turn it off by holding the power button for at least 30 seconds. press and hold the volume up button and the power button simultaneously for 15 seconds, then release the buttons.
screen will flash and the Surface will shut down (sometimes it gets stuck at the bios screen, just exit then). turn the device back on.
Surface 3, Surface 2, and Surface RT. Press and hold the power button for a full 10 seconds, until the screen turns off, then release the power button. On some Surface models, the screen may immediately turn off when pressing the power button. If this happens, continue to hold for the full 10 seconds and then release. Way 5: Reboot Surface Pro 3 or Pro 4 from USB disk when power off. When your Surface is locked, or frozen that can't get into system normally, you may need to recover it with a USB recovery drive. Windows 10 Build 14269 introduces a new freezing issue which causes the Surface Book, Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 to hang and cause any input (keyboard, trackpad or touch) to stop working. This is, indeed, a major issue but this is expected on Insider Fast builds nowadays.Nonetheless, if you face this issue, there is only one workaround and that is to force your Surface to hard reboot by holding down the power button. Microsoft stated:We’re investigating an issue in which some Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book devices experience a freeze or hang and all input such as keyboard/trackpad and touch do not work. The workaround is to hold down the power button to force the device to hard-reboot.Microsoft will hopefully fix this issue with the next Insider Fast build.
